New feature concept validation for social streaming
3 concepts tested
n = 1,000 · Ages 16–28
Daily streaming users
Three feature concepts were tested with 1,000 daily streaming users aged 16–28 to inform Streamly's H2 2026 product roadmap. Each respondent evaluated all three concepts in a rotated order during a 15-minute AI-moderated interview.
Watch Parties 2.0 generated the highest raw appeal (82%) and predicted daily engagement (72%), confirming that social co-viewing remains the killer feature for Gen Z. However, willingness to pay as a premium add-on was moderate (45%).
AI Mood Match showed the strongest premium conversion potential — 62% willingness to pay for a premium tier — with high uniqueness scores (78%). The recommendation is to ship Watch Parties 2.0 as a free engagement driver and position AI Mood Match as the premium differentiator.
Synchronized viewing with live audio rooms, reactions, and shared playlists. Up to 50 friends.

"Watch Parties is the reason I'd stay on Streamly instead of switching to something else. It's what makes the app social."
— Female, 19, daily user
"The mood thing is actually genius. Sometimes I don't know what I want to watch — I just know I'm tired and need something chill."
— Male, 22, daily user
"Creator Collab is cool but I'm not a creator. Maybe 10% of users would use this? It feels like a niche feature."
— Female, 24, daily user
"If AI Mood Match actually worked — like really learned me — I'd pay for premium in a heartbeat. The current recommendations are trash."
— Male, 17, daily user
It drives the highest engagement and retention. Gating it behind premium would undermine Streamly's social positioning.
62% WTP signals strong monetization potential. Invest in personalization quality — users explicitly said they'd pay if it 'actually worked.'
Appeal is concentrated in the creator segment (~12% of users). Revisit when creator monetization becomes a strategic priority.
1,000 daily streaming users aged 16–28 who use at least 2 streaming platforms. Balanced by gender and age band. Full rotation of concept presentation order. Recruited to match Streamly's core ICP.
15-minute AI-moderated depth interviews combining quantitative scoring (appeal, uniqueness, WTP, and predicted usage on calibrated scales) with qualitative exploration (open-ended probes on emotional reactions, use-case imagination, and comparison to existing features). Each interview produces structured data and verbatim transcripts for thematic analysis.
